Vicki Wilson, Bathurst’s Citizen of the Year and Patron of the Bathurst War Memorial Carillon will join the Mayor of Bathurst, Cr Graeme Hanger, AO, Cr Monica Morse and Richard Steele to show off the sounds of the Carillon Bells.
Carilloneur Ian Bates will play from 10.45am and Cr Monica Morse will present the premier with a souvenir cup bearing a picture of the Carillon.
Cr Morse sourced the vintage cup and saucer, thought to have been made after the Carillon was built in the 1930s, online when she heard the premier was visiting the city. Cr Morse said she thought it would be nice to present the gift to the premier.
“We’re always asking for something, so I thought it would be nice to present a gift in return,” she said.
Citizen of the Year, Vicki Wilson says she is honoured to welcome the premier and to seek support for the upgrade work and for the purchase and installation of a clavier. The Bathurst War Memorial Carillon Group has been working towards the installation of a clavier and the purchase of new bells.
The Bathurst Branch of the RSL has also been closely involved in working towards having new bells in time for the Centenary of the World War I Armistice in November this year.
