A SLOW start may have cost the Bathurst Giants in Saturday’s Central West AFL women’s match at Waratahs Sportsground, but the 3-7-25 to 2-5-17 loss against the Orange Tigerettes did not take away from the pride Liz Kennedy felt.

Earlier in the week the Giants coach had watched her players support each other and she said they still tried hard in Saturday’s Katrina Hobby Memorial.
“Orange just wanted it more, they had plenty more reasons to want to win, but I’m okay with that,” she said after the Tigerettes restricted her side to just one major in the opening half.
“It was a really emotional week for us, we had one of our player’s mum’s funeral on Friday then we had to back up for the memorial day in Orange. It was a tough week.
“By my heart is just bursting with pride for these girls.”

The Giants went into the match missing three of their more influential players in captain Katie Kennedy (back line), Minna Annand (midfield) and Danita Lane (forward line). On top of that, Molly Mann was concussed early in the second quarter.
Still, youth girls talent Leah Muller stood up on debut and the Giants fought hard in testing windy conditions.
There were nine points in it at the long break and three-quarter time, but the Tigerettes held on.
“We had three really big outs and the wind – the girls have never played in conditions like that – so to get as close as we did was great," Kennedy said.
