BizMonth was officially launched on Monday morning, an initiative of Bathurst Regional Council that aims to highlight the importance and diversity of local businesses.
There are 3,300 businesses in the Bathurst region and throughout September, local businesses’ achievements will be celebrated.
Mr Edwards said it’s important to celebrate how local businesses have contributed to the local community during BizMonth.
“Over one out of three of businesses have less than four employees and are the backbone of the local economy,” he said.
“Those businesses are the ones that started with an idea, and through hard work, passion and financial backing, have grown to be major employers in the region.
“They continue to grow and flourish with the support of the local community and business, and through events such as BizMonth.”
For the second year in a row, the Western Advocate, in partnership with council, Prime7, Clancy Motors and the chamber, is giving away a new Kia Picanto.
From September 6, those who make an eligible purchase from one of the many participating stores will go into the draw to win the car.
But it’s not just during BizMonth that local businesses are acknowledged, with Bathurst mayor Graeme Hanger saying council takes a proactive role in the continued economic development of the region.
“We are continuing investment in economic programs such as Jobs Expo, Evocities and Smart Cities Program that grow and support our local businesses,” he said.
