Mayor Graeme Hanger presented David Reynolds and his co-driver, Luke Youlden, with their plaque on Wednesday.
“This is the plaque that goes in the footpath, just along the road in front of the council chambers,” he said.
“We’ve been doing it for many, many years. Congratulations, lads, your name is up there now.”
The current champions, standing next to the Peter Brock Trophy, spoke of the significance of Bathurst to them and their excitement to be back to defend their title.
“I still can’t believe we won. We watched the replay of last year and I still can’t believe that it was me driving – it’s just bizarre,” Reynolds said.
“But it’s the most magical race I’ve ever been apart of. It’s the greatest race track in the world by far.
“Thanks to everyone for coming out and we’ll try to put another plaque up there this year.”
Youlden said it was a dream of his to win Bathurst after nearly two decades of trying and looks forward to making another attempt on Sunday.
