I do not believe many of the children or their parents understand the significance of Halloween, but are happy to contribute to the economy by dressing up in the dreaded plastic costumes.
It would be wonderful if all these children were allowed to walk to and from school. What a difference it would make to the volume of traffic around the school entrances each morning and afternoon.

Surely walking to school is safer than knocking on strangers’ doors in a quest for lollies. I know some children were accompanied by parents on October 31, so why not walk your children to school or trust them to walk with classmates?
Walking to and from school is also an excellent way to control childhood obesity.
I can only hope more children will be walking to school in the future.
If the children can walk on Halloween, they are quite capable to walk to school every day.
