The venue was awarded ‘Best Casual Dining Venue- Country Western’ at the 2018 Australian Hotels Association [AHA] NSW Awards for Excellence held last Tuesday, November 20 in Sydney.
This is the first AHA award that has been won by the George Hotel.
“To finally get that recognition and praise from a peak hospitality association is great for our staff,” George Hotel owner and licensee Matt Harrowsmith said.
“We personally have always been really proud of the food, environment and customer service that we provide.”
The AHA NSW Awards for Excellence are recognised as the most prestigious awards programme in the hospitality industry, and honour the achievement and excellence of NSW hotels across a variety of segments.
These segments include accommodation, dining, entertainment and marketing.
Mr Harrowsmith said that the venue thrives off its expansive beverage list and a firm commitment to producing quality food.
“People come here for the food, and it certainly is our strongest part of the business,” he said.
“Our kitchen team, lead by head chef Matt Hayden, churn out awesome meals day in and day out.”
The George Hotel opened in November 2015 following an extensive restoration project that transformed the identity of the venue from its previous iteration: the Park Hotel.
“We wanted to completely change the style of business from the late night, uni-orientated atmosphere of the Park Hotel,” Mr Harrowsmith said.
“We’re now a family-friendly and food-focused venue offering a comfortable environment.”
The George Hotel was one of three Bathurst venues nominated for ‘Best Casual Dining Venue- Country Western,’ along with the Kings Hotel and Jack Duggans Irish Pub.
“It shows that the pub and dining game is pretty strong in Bathurst,” Mr Harrowsmith said.
“Winning this award would not have been possible without our hard-working staff.”
