Brett Archer stepped down from the top job, allowing Sparks and a new-look committee to begin their planning for the next AFL Central West season.
Sparks left Bathurst in 2010 but returned to his junior club seven years later after time in Wollongong, Sydney and Perth.
He’s served on the club committee over the two seasons he’s been back with the club and Sparks is excited to take the next step.
“I started with the Bathurst Eagles as a junior in AusKick and to come back to my home town into a football club I’m so passionate about, to be the president and path the way for the future is such an honour and a privilege,” he said.
“I’m looking forward to getting to work and getting the things done that we want to.
“I was a part of some different competitions while I was away and I’m hoping to implement a lot of great things I’ve seen around the country to add to this club.”

Sparks has an enthusiastic team behind him ready to try and grow the club.
“We’ve got a very new committee this year. In the executive, Graeme Grundy has put his hand up for secretary, which is fantastic. We’re all very aware of his contribution to the game and our club,” he said.
“David Flude is the treasurer and provides really good stability in that area.
“Our new vice-president Andrew Grinter has been a stalwart of the club for many years.
“Other positions have been filled by people who are very passionate about the role they will play.”
Bushrangers will once again field two teams in the men’s competition for the 2019 season, look to hit back in the women’s draw while keeping up their numbers throughout junior squads.
Sparks said splitting the men’s squad again will be a test but one the club is always ready for.
“We understand we have the challenge of not playing in a two tier competition so we have a focus on building stability in the seniors,” he said.
“Our women’s numbers next year will likely be reducing, so recruiting for that will be a major priority for us.
“Juniors are an area we want to see improve. Our focus remains on participation and providing a fun and supportive environment for both juniors and seniors. We really want people to enjoy what they’re doing.
“We’ve done a strategic priority for the next five years and we’re just finalising that.”
