Well before the pre-show entertainment started, hundreds of residents had already claimed their spots in Machattie Park for the popular event.
The crowd only grew as time moved closer to the official start at 7pm.
“It’s packed and we’re so thrilled to have the large screens because it did mean everyone who came along could participate,” Mitchell Conservatorium’s executive director, Graham Sattler, said.
With the crowds what they were, Mr Sattler was able to say conclusively that it was the continued outpouring of community support that had kept the Carols going strong for 40 years.
“This was my sixth Reliance Bank Carols by Candlelight. It is always such an uplifting event and this event was the most heartwarming ever,” he said.
More than 100 performers were included in the program on Sunday, all of which had to audition for Mitchell Conservatorium with a Christmas song.
The audition process helped ensure that all the artists could deliver outstanding festive performances for the community.
“It was bigger and better than ever,” Mr Sattler said. “More performers and more variety than ever before.”
On the night, residents were treated to some of the most loved Christmas carols and songs, such as White Christmas, Santa Claus is Coming to Town and Hallelujah Chorus.
