The history excursion program has been running for around three years, attracting students from schools all over NSW.
“We wrote a new school program that is catered to the kindergarten to Year 6 history syllabus,” coordinator Lyn Haley said.
“It has been very well received.”
As part of the program, students get to take a guided tour of the historical house, participate in a handwriting lesson from the past and play some old-fashioned games outdoors.
The games include croquet, marbles, skittles and dancing around the maypole.
In addition to getting a taste of life from decades ago, students are also able to investigate local history and consider why it should be preserved.
“I think it is really important because it gives children an appreciation for what we have today and the past,” Ms Haley said.
“We can learn a lot from the hard lives our ancestors used to live.”
She added that students get asked a lot of questions during their visit, which help them to be engaged in their learning.
The history program is offered to schools between February and June and from September to December.
Schools can make bookings by contacting Ms Haley on 6368 5851.
The cost is $7 per students, while teachers can attend for free.
