THERE was just millimetres in it, but experience proved the difference as Drew Carter won the exciting battle for the Bathurst Cycling Club’s A grade track sprint championship.

Carter nudged out emerging talent Daniel Googe in the final throw to the line to take the honours in tricky, blustery conditions.
“It’s a nice one to notch up on the belt, that’s for sure,” Carter said.
“Daniel has been doing a lot of work training lately and he’s got a lot of power, but I think my 20-odd years of experience is what beat him,” he added with a laugh.
Carter had dropped himself back to B grade earlier in the season and found the competition stiff, but for the track sprint championship felt it fair that he return to the top tier.
“The track is definitely my preferred manner of riding,” he said.
Prior to the battles for the sprint titles, a 200 metres flying qualifier was held to seed the riders. While Googe (12.43) nudged out Carter (12.49), the experienced rider reversed the result later in the evening.

In form junior Kalinda Robinson (12.93) was the fastest qualifier for the B grade championships.
She then went on to claim the sprint crown ahead of Glen Carter, while third went to Rod Lovett.
It was a similar story in C grade as Toireasa Gallagher (14.50) qualified fastest before going on to win the championship. Peter McKinnon and Mick Robinson joined her on the podium.
In D grade as Rosemary Hastings got the nod ahead of Rachael Lovett while Tracey Robinson snared third.
