Lucie Shawcross from the National Portrait Gallery in Canberra offered insights during the tour of the Starstruck: Australian Movie Portraits exhibition.
Starstruck, which features portraiture, costume and memorabilia, is a touring exhibition developed between the National Portrait Gallery and the National Film and Sound Archive of Australia.
The exhibition includes still photography of Nicole Kidman, Hugo Weaving, Cate Blanchett and Chris Hemsworth, original costumes from The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert and Satine's red dress from Moulin Rouge!, as well as casting books from the early 20th century.
Bathurst is the fourth city on Starstruck's national tour.

The exhibition was opened at the gallery on June 7 and it will run until Sunday, July 28.
The exhibition is supported by the National Collecting Institutions Touring and Outreach Program, an Australian Government program that aims to improve access to the national collections for all Australians.
Also on exhibition at the gallery at the moment is Peter Solness: Lamplight.
It features the landscape, history and personalities of Hill End captured by the photography of Sydney-based Peter Solness.
His unique photographic technique of "light painting" involves mounting a camera on a tripod and working in darkness during long camera exposures from four to 60 seconds.
