Bathurst's average price for unleaded went from 136.7 cents per litre to 137.4 for the week ending August 25.
NRMA spokesperson Rebecca Page said that the slight price rise was good for Bathurst, given what was experienced elsewhere.
"Unleaded petrol prices in Bathurst have risen half a cent on average over the past week, which is good news for locals considering towns as close as Orange have seen an almost nine cent jump per litre," she said.
Orange was leading the Central West and placed second in the state for several weeks in a row, but the situation has changed.
Bathurst is now the best-priced centre in the Central West, while Orange is third thanks to its new average price of 139.9 cents per litre.
"Prices in Orange have remained the cheapest in the state since mid July thanks to the introduction of new competition in the market; it was only a matter of time before this week's increase occurred to bring Orange prices in line with more stable averages seen across regional NSW," Ms Page said.
Looking ahead, there is a chance prices will rise further in the Central West, but Ms Page said it wouldn't be a "dramatic shift".
The NRMA always encourages people to shop around for the best price, especially when there can be a big discrepancy between retailers.
"We don't want motorists unnecessarily handing over money to service stations who are charging more than their neighbours down the road, rather, we want people to keep driving and make sure they're getting the best price they can," Ms Page said.
"With the power of real-time petrol price data in the palm of their hands, this is a reality and a tool we encourage everyone, from families to businesses, to use to help avoid spending too much at the pump."
As of Tuesday, the best price for unleaded (131.7) and diesel (142.9) in Bathurst were at the Metro in Rocket Street. It also had the best price for e10 at 129.7 cents per litre.
