The biannual event is a key initiative of the Bathurst Regional Art Gallery Society [BRAGS], and aims to provide a medium for local artists to showcase and make a profit from their work.
In a first for the event, now in its seventh iteration, the exhibition window has expanded to two weeks, offering art enthusiasts more time to peruse the collection.
"The fair provides an opportunity for amateur and professional artists to have their works exhibited in our gallery," BRAGS vice-president Julia Blackwood said.
"Bathurst is fortunate to have one of the few regional public galleries catering for artists from a variety of skill levels."
The event will double as a fundraiser for BRAGS, with a small cut from each sale set to further the development of the arts in Bathurst and assist in the acquisition of new works for the gallery's permanent collection.
Since the first event in 2007, the Bathurst Art Fair has exhibited over 1600 works and achieved sales in excess of $50,000.
"We've had an amazing response from local artists this year, and the works possess strong themes of country life through painted and sculpted mediums," Bathurst Regional Art Gallery [BRAG] director Sarah Gurich said.
"It takes an awful lot of time and resources for the BRAGS committee to put an event like this together."
The art fair will run until Sunday, October 13, with artworks priced between $70 and $2000.
