Tetris will see the Dutch-based production company Arch 8 attempt to reimagine the landmark Russian video game through a combination of strength, agility and acrobatic skill.
Choreographer Erik Kaiel said the production focuses on how people fit in among societal structures.
"The performance examines social architecture: how people fit into each other, how they belong and how they manipulate each other to fit into society," Mr Kaiel said.
Along with Tetris, the performance will take inspiration from other cross-generational favourites such as Twister and Rubik's Cube.
Performer Ivan Ugrin said the incorporation of Tetris into physical theatre serves as a metaphor for belonging.
"We strive to be accepted in society as individuals and while Tetris is about fitting shapes together, certain circumstances can prevent a clear fit," Mr Ugrin said.
Performer Paulien Truijen said the show will provide an interpretive experience for people of all ages.
"For the last eight years,we've toured this production to all corners of the world, and we're yet to come across an audience who has struggled to grasp the perfomance," Ms Truijen said.
"There's so many layers to the show, and everyone will draw something different from it."
Tetris will commence at BMEC tomorrow night from 6.30pm and Friday from 11am. For ticketing information, visit bmec.com.au.
