McHappy Day gets underway across Australia on Saturday morning, and here in Bathurst, our two McDonald's restaurants hope to raise $24,000 for Ronald McDonald House Charities, a home away from home for seriously ill children and their families.

As the largest annual fundraiser for RMHC Australia nationally, McHappy Day is instrumental in raising funds for the charity, which helps keep families together while their child undergoes medical treatment.

Since its inception in Australia in 1991, McHappy Day has raised more than $46 million for RMHC.

Brittany Wood, from McDonald's Bathurst, is helping co-ordinate the event and said it will be a fun day.

At the Bathurst restaurant there will be a jumping castle, plus an amazing raffle, with over $2,000 in prizes, thanks to sponsorship from Supercheap Auto.

Ms Wood has set a fundraising goal of $14,000 for the Bathurst Restaurant, while Kelso is aiming for $10,000.

So far, through the sale of helping hands, McHappy Day socks and limited edition Big Mac sauce, $5,000 has already been raised.

Buying a Big Mac from McDonald's on Saturday, with $2 from every Big Mac sold going directly to RMHC or picking-up a pair of $5 Silly Socks or a Helping Hand for $2, $10 or $50 at your local Macca's.

Or make a donation on the day; volunteers will be walking around with collection buckets.
