So she got in contact with a host of fellow local musicians and approached Piccolo's on William with the idea to stage an impromptu busking session at the venue to raise money for bushfire victims.
The resulting event yesterday saw a grand total of $3265.50 raised for bushfire relief, with the proceeds set to go towards the Australian Red Cross and WIRES.
Half the figure was raised by the busking session alone, with Piccolo's matching the amount dollar for dollar.
"I think a lot of people are feeling really helpless with the current bushfire situation, and I felt the best thing we could do as musicians was to perform live and raise money for a good cause," Ms Smith said.
"The event brought so many people together to discuss shared fears and sadness for those who have been affected by the fires which, for many, was a refreshing change from seeing the bad news roll in online."
Along with Ms Smith, the busking event included performances by Gabbi Bolt, Andy Nelson, Genni Kane, Jon Wilby, Pandora Holliday and Erin McMahon.

The musicians played a mix of their own original songs, and ended the session with the appropriately titled Beatles classic 'With a Little Help from My Friends.'
Piccolo's owner Maggie de Vries said it was lovely to see the community come together for a good cause.
"We donated $1 from every cold drink sold towards the fundraiser and $700 of our contribution to the final total was from staff tips we have been collecting since the start of the fire emergency," Ms de Vries said.
"It shows how much music and small business means to the community, and we'd be more than happy to host an event like this again in the near future."
Ms de Vries invited a host of local NSW Rural Fire Service [RFS] personnel to attend yesterday's event.
