Holmes was effectively racing the clock in his solo campaign for his age group, but he fared well in the Sydney event.
He contested the under 16s wheelchair 100m, 200m, 400m and 800m events and fared strongest as a percentage of the record time in the shorter events.
His best result was in the 100 metres where his time of 23.18 was recorded at a percentage of 66.78.
While 'Rooster' was a little disappointed not to improve on more of his times - he did manage a personal best in the 800m - there's potential to improve in his nationals bid.
There's hope Holmes' new wheelchair will arrive in time before nationals and it's certain to make an impact.
"Everyone else he's racing against, even though they're in different age groups, are in brand new chairs. It makes a huge difference," his mother Tanya said.
"There were three of them in the races but the other two were in under 20s. He did really well and was a little disappointed he didn't get his PB in the 100m. He came close in the 200.
"It's only 12 months since he's started and he's been able to cut his times in half. He's progressing well and that chair will make a huge difference. Fingers crossed it will be here next week.
"He's extremely happy to go through to nationals again, and these were his first gold medals so that's a big highlight for him.
"Considering the experience of the kids he's racing against I think he's doing really well."
Fisk came close to scoring discus success in the under 16s girls division, throwing the furthest of all competitors with 21.24 metres, but coming narrowly second after adjustments based on class.
The Bathurst competitor also added a shot put bronze to her name thanks to a throw of 6.76m.
Houston also came close to scoring gold across his track and field programme.
The Bathurst runner impressed against athletes with several years more experienced than him in the under 20s age group, scoring silver in the 1500m and long jump.
He added a bronze in the 800m to his name.
