IT might have been a virtual battle, but what played out in the Bathurst round of the Supercars Allstars Eseries has whet the appetite of Shane van Gisbergen to battle more young guns.

In fact so much did the Red Bull Racing star enjoy racing against Super2 regular Brodie Kostecki in the simulator event he has called for Supercars to combine the two classes in the actual Bathurst round.
"It was awesome to race against more cars on the grid last night with the wildcard entries," van Gisbergan said after the Bathurst Eseries round.
"In my opinion, it should be like this in real life - Bathurst should combine DVS and the Supercars, or allow other classes and make it a massively contested event like it used to be.
"When I first started my Supercars career there was more than 30 cars competing for the Great Race and it was awesome, so hopefully one day they can make that happen again."
Kostecki, the current Super2 Series leader, entered the Bathurst Eseries round as a wildcard entry.
He topped qualifying and only van Gisbergen went quicker than him in the top 10 shootout.
Kostecki went on to place second to van Gisbergen in the first virtual race of the Bathurst round and was runner-up in the final contest after he staged an entertaining battle with the Red Bull driver and Scott McLaughlin.
That followed on from making his actual Bathurst 1000 debut last year with his cousin Jake Kostecki in a wildcard entry. They were forced to retire after 111 laps.
As for the Eseries, being staged while the regular Supercars season is on hold due to the coronavirus, van Gisbergen sits in third after Bathurst. He picked up a win, a seventh and a third.
"It was great to have another three good races at Mount Panorama and score some more points. The reverse grid race was a tough one, but I had a heap of fun and managed to climb into the top 10 from the back of the grid," he said.
"The battle with Scotty and Brodie in the last race was good - we had so much fun. I didn't quite have the pace in the last race, so Brodie passed me and had a great battle for first."
