At this stage, the Bathurst Eisteddfod is scheduled to commence on August 22 and run until September 12.
But Bathurst Eisteddfod Society president Renee Fowler said they're holding off on a final decision to ensure they have the best COVID-related advice.
"It will probably come down to the Bathurst Memorial Entertainment Centre [BMEC] and whether they're allowed to reopen or not," Ms Fowler said.
"We're probably going to hold off on a final decision until June and unless things really go pear-shaped in the next few weeks, we'll look to open entries."
If entries open and the event is later cancelled, Ms Fowler said all entries will be refunded.
Regardless, Ms Fowler said the society is expecting a very different approach to the eisteddfod this year.
"Our school groups play a major role in the eisteddfod each year and with full-time schooling on hold until term three, it'll be tricky to get students together for choir and band," she said.
"The society is in constant communication regarding this year's eisteddfod, and we're holding off in the hope we get some good news."
