MORE than 1800 homes in Bathurst lost power for close to an hour on Sunday evening after a car crashed into an electricity pole on the Eglinton Road.

Essential Energy said 1849 homes were plunged into darkness after the single vehicle crash, which occurred at around 7.50pm.
Houses along the Eglinton Road, Llanarth, West Bathurst and Orange Road were were among those affected by the outage, with Essential Energy restoring power to many homes at about 9pm.

According to the Essential Energy website, 79 customers remained without power after that time.
Emergency services rushed to the scene, with the Eglinton Road still closed to traffic at 9pm on Sunday.
The car, a small sedan, was extensively damaged in the crash, with a tow truck also at the scene.
