The $2.1 million upgrade has seen vital safety works carried out at the Range Road turnoff on the Great Western Highway in Meadow Flat, 25 minutes east of Bathurst.
Minister Regional Transport and Roads Paul Toole said the state government had provided the upgrade to improve safety at the intersection.
"The lack of a dedicated turning lane into Range Road with the number of heavy vehicles utilising the highway was of real concern, so we've upgraded the intersection to fix that," Mr Toole said.
"We've also widened the road and installed safety barriers, to ensure the intersection is as safe as possible."
Mr Toole said the intersection facilitates commuters for a variety of different purposes.
"This section of the Great Western Highway is a key route for residents, the freight industry and visitors alike as it links the communities of Bathurst, Lithgow and Portland," he said.
"The safety improvements to the Range Road intersection is another example of our ambitious road upgrade program, designed to make key roads like the Great Western Highway, which have heavy and light vehicles in close proximity, as safe and reliable as possible."
