After a stellar 2019 which saw him not only star for the Canterbury Cup winning Newtown Jets but make his NRL debut, Kennedy was given the nod to wear the number one jumper at the start of the season as regular Sharks fullback Matt Moylan was sidelined with injury.
Though the Sharks lost the two matches they played before the coronavirus shutdown - defeated 22-18 by South Sydney and 12-10 by Melbourne - Kennedy was impressive.
The 23-year-old recorded one try-assist, one line break, 10 tackle breaks and averaged 120 metres per game. Kennedy has also been solid over the past three weeks at Sharks' training.
While Moylan has returned to training, he has been named on the bench in number 19 for Saturday's third round match against Wests Tigers.
The Tigers have one win and one loss for the season thus far and the Sharks, who will be skippered by Wade Graham, are intent on keeping it that way.
The match, which will be Kennedy's fifth NRL appearance, will kick off at 5.30pm at Sydney's Bankwest Stadium.
