Mick Anderson has long been involved in motor sport - he's acted as both a driver and team owner - but should his Commodore get on the grid in 2020 it will mark the biggest moment for him yet.
The Super2 Series sits just one tier below the Supercars and if racing commences, Anderson Motorsport will be supported by main game team Walkinshaw Andretti United.
The draft calendar consists of four events at Winton, The Bend, Bathurst's Mount Panorama and Sandown. The first of those - Winton - is scheduled for July 18-19.
"It's not 100 percent, but it is something. That's what they are intending on doing, but the problem with that is they can't totally make the decision until they increase the numbers [permitted at events]," Anderson said.
"If we go back before the COVID stuff started, we had a really good roster - Adelaide, Sydney at the night race, Townsville, Bathurst, Sandown.
"We just realistically had to change a few things around. The original calendar looked unreal, but this one is as good as what we can do now.
"Fingers crossed, that is what we are all working for, so hopefully that is the case."
Anderson feels the draft calendar is the best option for Super2 in the current environment, but said he would have been happy with whatever it looked like.
He knows that others involved with motor sport might not be so lucky.
"We don't really care, we just want to go racing," he laughed.
"There's going to be a lot of categories that will miss out, so it's good that we're the number one category for Supercars to support. That makes a big difference.
"To be honest Winton isn't really a Super2 track, but the way the rest of the calendar shapes up, that's most realistically going to make our calendar a better one.
"They were looking to go to Winton, Townsville, Bathurst, Sandown, but that's probably not going to happen because of the Queensland Government's rules.
"But I've always like Winton as a track, we've got a couple of test days to do before we get there. It's not 100 percent, but now we've got a date and a calendar, we can work towards it.
"The time off has not really affected us, we've done a heap of maintenance done to the car. We would've had it ready no matter what, but this has given us more time to be ready to go."
The round at The Bend, scheduled for September 19-20, is set to be a first for the category. However, Anderson has driven there and last season when campaigning in Super3 with Jayden Ojeda, they won the round.
"We've had good success there and have a fair bit of data on it. Super2 has never been there before, it will be something which is new for everyone, which is a bit more of a level playing field," he said.
Anderson thanked sponsors Blue Ribbon Legal, Kenwood Homes and Lowes Petroleum Service for their support.
