Following on from the announcement by the state government that community sport for those aged 18 and under is approved to commence as of July 1, AFL NSW-ACT released a July 17-19 target.
That came as good news to the Bathurst Giants juniors who will contest the under 12, 14 and 17 plus youth girls AFL Central West competitions in 2020, as well as the club's younger Auskickers.
"We are hoping that all four of our junior sides will start on the 19th, that's our plan, that's the goal and we are hoping that all other clubs are in the same boat," Giants' spokesperson Kathy Sloan said.
"We had about 30 Auskickers before shutdown ... it kind of kicked us just as we were about to go into recruiting big-time, but that's the same for all the other sports too.
"So we are hoping that they will be back, they seem to be keen and I think their parents are keen to get them out of the house. If good to go, Wednesday the 22nd that's when we'd look to go for Auskick."
Sloan knows that the July date is currently a target rather than official commencement, but she said it's still good news.
"Our juniors are still only allowed to train in groups of 10 with no contact and Auskick is still not officially back, at the moment that's just a save the date, but yes, it is exciting."
