When year 11 MacKillop College student Josephine Jackson had to use a non-traditional medium to create an artwork for a school assignment, she got creative.

She used paper paint samples to create a self portrait, entering it in Bathurst Regional Art Gallery's Young Archie Competition and it was so good that the artwork won the 16-18 year old's category.
The artwork titled 'Stargazing' was created over the span of two weeks and required "lots" of colour samples, especially different shades of brown, green and light skin tones.

"I did the artwork on black cardboard and the stars are other paint samples," she explained.
Charlie O'Brien won the 6-10 year old's category and based his work on his father.
"I like beards and he has a big one and I'd never drew one before," the Canobolas Public student said.
"I like it and he's a good person. He's good to be around and he helps me solve video game problems on Rocket League, Minecraft and Jurassic Park."
The 0-5 years old winner was Bathurst West's Anabia Naz for her artwork 'The most beautifullest' and Oberon High's Sophie Redman won the 11-15 years old with her work 'Scott'.
The artworks will be on display at the art gallery until October 11.
