The A final was a tight contest between Rhys Harvey and Craig Bush up against Mick McDonald and Peter Naylor.
The Bush pairing got off to a strong start and led 5-1, but in a match that was always going to be close, Naylor came back to lead 7-5 after eight ends. Bush regained the lead with three shots on end 10, but gave these back to Naylor three ends later and with it, the lead.
McDonald and Naylor held onto the lead until the end, with a crucial two shots on the second last end giving them a four-shot advantage. Bush took the last end by two, but it was not enough and the win went to Naylor and McDonald 18-16.
The B Pairs saw the relatively inexperienced pairing of Des Saunders and Trevor Sharpham take on Scott Chapman and Hugh Brennan.
Saunders and Sharpham led early and were in the match at the completion of seven ends, only down by two. The experience of Chapman and Brennan was then on show as they built, and maintained, pressure to win all but two of the remaining ends to run out 33-8 winners.
Tuesday social bowls
WITH the weather on the improve, Tuesday social play saw four games contested, with one game of pairs and three games of triples.
Game one: The pairs contest was between Ian Warren and Peter Naylor against John Bosson and Kevin Howard. Naylor dominated this game from the beginning, with a five-shot win on the third end helping them to a 10-0 lead after five ends.
Howard then staged a mini comeback to win the next three ends, including a four, and got back into the contest, but it was not to be enough. The Naylor pair were too strong over the second half of the game to record a comfortable 27-14 win.
Game two: Ron Hogan, Ted Parker and Gordon Death were no match for Alan Clark, Rod Luck and Nev Kable in their triples match.
It was a low scoring game over the first 10 ends, with Kable having a narrow lead 7-4. Kable then pulled away by winning all but two of the remaining ends and scoring 10 shots over the last four ends. The end result was 23-7 to Kable.
Game three: Tom Beck, Des Sanders and Tim Pickstone were well in the match against Terry Chifley, John Banning and Noel Whitney at the end of 11, despite being down 8-13.
Whitney then took control of the game over the next four ends, winning all of them and scoring 11 shots. They held on to that margin over the final ends to run out victors 28-12.
Game four: Chris Woodyatt, Mick Burke and Peter Zylstra started strongly in their match against Peter Ryan, Jim Clark and Ron McGarry by winning the first three ends and leading 7-0.
The McGarry team fought back and took the lead 15-14 after 14 ends, but lost the next three ends to be trailing by seven. McGarry scored a five on the the 18th end to keep them in the game, but Zylstra scored seven shots over the next two ends and took the win 29-21.
Saturday bowls
AS well as the pairs finals, there was also a match of first round triples championships played and two games of social bowls played on Saturday.
Triples: The championship triples game was between Ron McGarry, Ken Hartwig and Tim Pickstone taking on Garth Robinson, Terry James and Peter Zylstra.
The Pickstone team held a slender two-shot advantage after eight ends, but then scored seven shots on the next end to push the lead out to nine shots. Zylstra came back to win the next two ends, but not enough to close the gap.
Pickstone also scored 11 shots over ends 12 to 15, and although the remaining ends were evenly shared, the victory went to Pickstone 35-18.
Game one: Ron Hogan and Ted Parker let their lead slip away in their match with Max Elms and Greg Quartly-Scott.
After building up a good lead - 11-2 after eight ends - Parker lost momentum and Quartly-Scott came back and won the next three ends to get within one. A five-shot win on the 13th end gave Quartly-Scott the lead, which they never gave up and took the win 21-16.
Game two: The final pairs match saw John Bosson and Lotsa Kozsta lead from start to finish against Roger Cooper and Noel Whitney.
Kozsta were strong over the first 13 ends, winning all but three ends and building up a big lead at 21-6. Whitney came back over the final eight ends to share the shots and ends, but could not pull back the lead and went down 13-28.

Our juniors worked through a series of drills to develop their on-shots.
Flynn Anderson and Nolan Stafford challenged each other with a range of shot situations, whilst Tarron Wright and Kristian Geale played out an exciting game of singles. Tarron handled the quick greens slightly better to score a 7-3 victory.
