Keppel Street is fittingly known as the trendy heart of Bathurst's CBD, and a new business tenant is set to further expand on this fact.
Vintage clothing business A Puppy and Her has recently opened a studio at 2/49 Keppel Street [above El Guapo Cantina] to provide a place for people to peruse a diverse collection of vintage outfits.
Owner Abby Smith said the studio will be open via appointment, and offers admirers of fashion a greater opportunity to browse with convenience.
"The business has expanded to the point where my collection has grown enough to create a more public space for it," Ms Smith said.
"At the heart of it, I'm doing this to promote sustainable fashion and the importance of reducing our waste footprint, as too many items of clothing are thrown away and end up in landfill."
The business has built a staunch following on social media [over 1000 Instagram followers] and Ms Smith said the COVID-19 period has helped grow the business online.
"As awful as COVID is, it has helped smaller businesses expand online, and I also think its opened many people's eyes in terms of what they can do to live simply and sustainably," she said.
Ms Smith, who is also a celebrated local musician [Smith & Jones], said she's been blown away by the numbers of people who have begun to embrace vintage fashion through the business.
"Vintage is for everyone, and it offers a great opportunity to express yourself through clothing," she said.
"We do a lot of travelling with Smith & Jones, and every place we go to, we shop around the op shops for hidden treasures."
"The beauty of this business is it unearths treasures that sometimes haven't been worn for decades, where they can be adapted and re-imagined by a new owner."
The collection includes clothing items of all sizes, from kids to size 22 women.
