Macquarie and Panorama went goal for goal in an entertaining clash at Proctor Park, with both teams having their chances to put the game beyond the other's reach.
Victory looked to be coming Panorama's way went they took a 3-2 advantage but a goal from Macquarie sent the game towards a tense conclusion.
It was unfortunate that the game's decisive goal would be an own goal from Macquarie but it did little to take the shine of a strong performance against a team gearing up for finals.
Macquarie spent the early and middle stages of this year's competition well in the finals mix but officially lost touch in the race went they recently went down to Eglinton, putting fourth place beyond their grasp.
Coach Andrew Speed side the team should be proud of the way the squad carried themselves against much more experienced opponents.

"I'm very proud of them all because they're such a young team," he said.
"Most of them are under 18s players and there's probably only three or four who are over 18. But we were very competitive through the whole season and we were able to match it with the other teams.
"It's something really good to build on for next year. Everyone seems really keen to come back and we'll give it another go again next year."
Macquarie played loose, fast football on Sunday and decided to shake things up for a bit of fun.
With zero pressure on their shoulders Speed said they put in a big showing.
"It was a really great, tight game the whole way," he said.
"It was our final game of the season so we had a bit of fun moving our players around the field and bringing up goalkeeper up for the end of it.
"We went pretty much goal for goal and we definitely had our chances to score a couple more. It was anyone's game right until the end of it."
Abercrombie and CSU play for the first grand final spot while Panorama and Eglinton fight it out in the elimination semi-final.
