The Bathurst Gardeners' Club will present the inaugural Bathurst Spring Spectacular Plant and Garden Expo this Saturday at Lions Berry Park [across the road from the Bathurst Skate Park] from 9.30am to 5pm.
Bathurst Gardeners' Club publicity officer Dianne Thurling said while COVID-19 has greatly affected the capacity to run the event as per normal, the welcome rainfall throughout 2020 has restored confidence in gardening.
"Everything's looking promising, we just need the weather to be good and it's all systems go," Ms Thurling said.
"There's no open gardens this year, but we still wanted to give the Bathurst community something to look forward to, and we expect this expo to feature an abundance of products for local gardeners."
Entry to the event will be via gold coin donation, and a wide range of merchandise will be available from the 35 stall holders participating.
Several local nurseries will offer a cornucopia of annuals, shrubs and garden ornaments while a specialist maple nursery will have many varieties of the sought-after tree species.
In addition, local growers will be selling their favourite plants and the Bathurst Gardeners Club will have their ever-popular Monster Plant Stall.
Ms Thurling said all COVID-19 safety protocols will apply to the event.
"Hand sanitiser will be available at several stations at the expo, and a COVID-safe Marshall will be in attendance throughout the day," she said.
"We will also be strongly advising attendees to socially distance where possible and to stay home if you're feeling unwell."
The council will be on hand to advise on waterwise strategies while other experts will be there to provide information on landscaping, watering systems and tourism.
Hunger and thirst will be catered for with a Lions barbecue, a Quota food stall, a coffee van and a smokehouse specialist with a range of smoked meats and students from the Mitchell Conservatorium will be playing music throughout the day.
Bathurst Gardeners Club will donate funds raised at the expo to the Daffodil Cottage Wig Library, Mitchell Conservatorium scholarships and the 2BS Lions Club Christmas Miracle Appeal.
The expo will also provide a fundraising opportunity for a number of local charities, including a man selling sheep manure to raise funds to support a children's home in Bangladesh.
