CSU FC's headspace Cup raises $10,000 for mental health services

The 2020 headspace Cup, which was held in September, saw CSU amass the funds through an online raffle and donations from individuals and rival soccer clubs.

CSU FC club captain Brady Evans said the final result was an impressive effort considering fundraising operations had to be reorganised due to COVID-19.

"We generally run the canteen at Proctor Park and send tins around the grounds but with COVID-19, we weren't able to take that approach," Mr Evans said.

"Local businesses donated a range of great prizes to the online raffle, and Bathurst District Football threw in a select amount for each goal scored throughout the tournament."

Since its inception in 2016, the headspace Cup has raised close to $40,000 for the mental health service provider.

"The age group headspace looks after is essentially 100 per cent of our club, so we feel its essential to support an organisation who helps our generation through tough times," Mr Evans said.

Community engagement officer Jake Byrne said the funds will go towards the development of further programs for young people aged 12 to 25.

"We have a music program in the works, and there's a host of other initiatives in development tailored for young people with a variety of interests," Mr Byrnes said.

"With the year we've had, it's more vital than ever to start these conversations."
