Ms Salmon will succeed incumbent principal David Maher, who has held the role in an acting capacity for two years, and will remain as assistant principal in 2021 for an indefinite period.
"I'm delighted to be joining the Assumption School community next year, I've heard great things from this school and I can't wait to be part of it," Ms Salmon said.
Ms Salmon will come to Bathurst from the Northern Rivers region of NSW, where she currently works as a learning and teaching consultant for the Catholic Diocese of Lismore.
"I've previously served as assistant principal at St Johns Primary School in Mullumbimby and started my teaching career in various roles throughout Sydney and in Ireland," she said.
With a core passion for quality regional education, Ms Salmon hopes to bring a wealth of experience to the role.
"We're on the cusp of a pedagogical change in the Catholic education sector, especially in the realm of technology," she said.
"Technology is obviously a big disruptor in education at the moment, so we need to learn how to harness it to give students an advantage."
"We need to be unapologetically Catholic in our identity, and I'm looking forward to contributing."
Mr Maher said Ms Salmon's strong background as an educator will usher in a new era for Assumption School.
"The school's had an amazing run, with some outstanding principals over the years, and we know Kate will continue that run into the future," he said.
"We've got a lovely community, and Kate will enter an environment abundant in inquisitive students, supportive staff and positive parents."
Mr Maher reflected on his time as acting principal with plenty of positivity.
"I've absolutely loved the role, and have enjoyed working with the leadership team, staff and students," he said.
"We've got an excellent parent body, who have been incredibly patient and understanding with us throughout the difficulties of 2020."
