This year, the city's festivities are a four-day affair, with the Bathurst Fun Fair helping residents to celebrate.
The fair had its first of two fireworks displays on Saturday night, which spectacularly lit up the sky over Bathurst Showground.
Event manager Jade Evans said the fireworks display was really well received and that "was the highlight for people".
"It was actually fantastic. It was really well received," she said. "When the fireworks finished everyone started cheering."
The fireworks, of course, were part of a much larger event, the fun fair.
Saturday's sessions were booked out and Ms Evans said she hadn't heard a single complaint about the day.
That is good news for event organisers, who had brought some new activities, including water slides, a sand pit and putt-putt golf, for the fair's third trip to Bathurst.
"We've got a few new layers. Every time we come it gets a bit bigger and there are more elements to it," Ms Evans said.
The fun fair will operate daily until its conclusion on Australia Day.
Tickets are being snapped up fast, so people are urged to book online now to avoid disappointment.
Ms Evans said the community has been very welcoming and everyone involved with putting on the fun fair was thankful for that.
It is hoped the event will become a staple in Bathurst.
"We'd like to build this as an annual event for Australia Day weekend and work with council to do that," Ms Evans said.
