At least five jobs and the number of schools at Charles Sturt University will be cut following final cost-saving measures announced on Wednesday.

CSU interim Vice-Chancellor Professor John Germov said the equivalent of 4.1 full time jobs would be lost while the equivalent of 28.4 full time vacancies would not be filled.
The university is also merging about 17 existing schools into nine while eight schools will remain unchanged.
Professor Germov said feedback from staff had helped minimise the number of roles to be cut in the Sustainable Futures Program.

"The 4.1 full time equivalent professional and general staff whose positions are ceasing will have priority opportunity to apply for the approximately 30 new and vacant FTE positions within the faculties at present," he said.
Professor Germov said job losses were minimised by measures including not filling the vacant positions, changing positions in 'technical and enterprise teams' and creating and retaining academic leadership positions within the new schools.
Earlier this month Professor Germov said CSU's latest financial forecasts indicated it was on track to balance its budget by the end of 2021, despite also projecting a student revenue decline of more than $50 million this year.

The nine new schools are:
- School of Education (School of Education and School of Teacher Education).
- School of Agriculture, Environmental and Veterinary Sciences (School of Agriculture and Wine Sciences, School of Animal and Veterinary Sciences, and School of Environmental Sciences).
- School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences (School of Exercise Science, Sport and Health and School of Community Health).
- School of Dentistry and Biomedical Sciences, including the Centre for Rural Dentistry and Oral Health (School of Dentistry and Health Sciences; pharmacy, medical pathology disciplines in the School of Biomedical Sciences; and biomedical sciences disciplines in the School of Biomedical Sciences/School of Community Health).
- School of Nursing, Indigenous Health and Paramedicine (School of Nursing, Midwifery and Indigenous Health and the paramedicine discipline in the School of Biomedical Sciences.
- School of Business (School of Accounting and Finance and School of Management and Marketing).
- School of Computing, Mathematics and Engineering (School of Computing and Mathematics and CSU Engineering).
- School of Social Work and Arts (School of Humanities and Social Sciences and sub-disciplines from Creative Industries).
- School of Information and Communications Studies (School of Information Studies, the Communication discipline and sub-disciplines from Creative Industries).
