BEFORE the league tag grand final of Saturday's Mid West League pre-season carnival, Oberon coach Shannon Foley joked her side would have no idea how to celebrate winning given they'd never before contested a decider.

But when the final whistle was blown at Diggings Oval and Oberon was declared 20-0 winners over CSU, those in Tigers jumpers did a pretty good job at celebrating.
Not only was it the first time Oberon had defeated Mid West league tag powerhouses CSU - the six-times defending premiers - but Saturday's game marked the first time a senior Tigers league tag side had qualified for a grand final in their history.
"It does feel a bit surreal, definitely," Foley said.
"The start of season we lost players, I wasn't expecting to even field a side and now we've put this together so I'm very happy.
"It's definitely nice to knock the champs off and yeah, to hold them to nil was great. In the first round it was a 10-all draw, but then we come out and do that, it was amazing."
As Foley mentioned, during the round games the Tigers has drawn 10-all with the Mungals so when they lined up against each other in the decider another good contest was expected.
That's how it shaped in the opening minutes as Ella Brien and Georgie Rich enjoyed line breaks for the Tigers and CSU fullback Brooke Morgan did likewise.
But it was Oberon who scored first as Masey Taggart won the chase to a kick which rolled in goal. Tigers fullback Lourie Bailey then nailed the conversion 10 metres in from the sideline to make it 10-0.
With just over four minutes left until half-time Oberon was in again and again it came off the back of a kick. This time it was Renee Newstead who grounded the ball to make it 10-0.
Three minutes into the second half CSU found themselves in good position, forcing a line drop out after a strong Grace Farmilo chase on the back of a Sam Hurst kick.
Lily Walsh came within inches of diving over off the following set, but two plays later CSU knocked on, Bailey scooped up the lose ball and ran almost the entire length of the field to score for Oberon. She converted that effort to make it 16-0.
The win was iced with 3:22 left on the clock when Bec Fletcher broke clear down the left sideline to score Oberon's fourth try.
The 20-0 win was one Foley said will give her side plenty of confidence heading into the 2021 season, but for the beaten CSU outfit - who were in the main new players - there were plenty of positives too.
Morgan showed she's a threat in broken play and was strong on kick returns, while Farmilo pressured with her speed. For the other new recruits, the carnival gave them a taste of what will come in the season proper.
