It continued what has been his best season since taking up the sport.
In the opening round of the Bathurst season, Reen opted to tackle the 300 metres swim, 16 kilometre cycle, 5km run short course event and finished more than four minutes clear of his nearest rival.
For the Christmas round he stepped up to the long course and won that as well. He stopped the clock after 50 minutes and 27 seconds - an effort which was a tick over three minutes faster than what he recorded when taking out the same race in 2019.
Next up Reen took part in the Bathurst round of the Central West Inter Club Triathlon Series. That race used a grand prix format, meaning two swim legs, two runs legs and a cycle.
The Bathurst talent placed third outright in a time of 49 minutes flat. That was an improvement on a year earlier when crossing the line fifth in a time of 52:33.
After that came something new for Reen as he tackled a Half Ironman distance for the first time. Not only did he complete the 1.9km swim, 90km cycle, 21.2km run course that was the Husky Ultimate, but he won the under 20s gold medal.
That effort drained Reen and he admitted he was feeling flat heading into the season-ending Dave Scott/Dave Carroll Memorial.
But he still had enough left to not only win the race which honours two former club legends, but complete the short course in a quicker time that what he clocked for the season opener.
Reen covered the distance in 38:04.
"It has been a big season and it's a pretty prestigious race, so it's an honour to win," he said.
It was Tyler Johnson and Will Kelly who emerged from the pool in first and second respectively on Sunday, followed by Reen.
He set off in hot pursuit, taking the lead as he clocked a 23:23 split for the cycle leg. He backed that up with a 9:21 run - the fastest time for the 2.5km on the day.
"I caught Tyler on Hereford Street and then I caught Will halfway along Eleven Mile Drive. It was basically hammer as hard as you can after feeling pretty flat coming off an A race," he said.
Second place belonged to Mark Windsor, a strong cycle (23:04) helping him onto the podium in a time of 39:28. Will Kelly (40:58), Mick Stapley (47:39) and Johnson (48:41) rounded out the top five.
While the Bathurst season has now come to an end, Reen still has more racing on the agenda and aims to keep improving as a triathlete.
"I will now do Wollongong Olympic in two weeks' time and then I'll do club champs up in Foster. Clubs champs are a one kay swim, 30 bike and eight run," he said.
"With limited races coming up and just being so young and the Half Ironman taking it out of you, I'll just stick with Olympics for awhile and maybe look at doing Western Sydney later in the year."
