Bathurst mother and daughter's kind donation to Ronald McDonald House at Orange

The pair arrived armed with bags full of items to make the day a little brighter for families during their stay at the facility.

Following a call out on RMHC Orange's social pages recently for particular items which were running low, Ms Wood and her mother Kimberly headed for the shops, purchasing more than $300 worth of items for the house and for sick children out of their own pocket.

"I have just been so aware of the work of Ronald McDonald House in Orange since I was at school and we did a Wear Red Day fundraiser," Ms Wood said.

"Then I went on to work at McDonald's and did a lot of work with fundraising every year."

Ms Wood, who now works at Orange Hospital, says she has become even more aware of the fantastic work of the house in supporting families who welcome the opportunity to stay nearby when they have a child in the hospital.

The women donated colouring in books and pencils, games and toys for sick children, and groceries, snacks and toiletries for families staying in the house.

Following their donation, the mother and daughter were taken on a tour of the Orange house.

"This place is fantastic and if a place like this didn't exist where families can stay at no cost, I don't know what many of them would do as a lot of people don't have the money to pay for accommodation," Ms Benger said.

Ms Benger said she was proud of her daughter's initiative in showing her support for Ronald McDonald House.

"Brittany saw on social media the items were needed and we both agreed to get behind it," she said.

Since Ronald McDonald House Charities opened in Orange, 874 families from the Central and Far West have stayed free at the house for a total of 7166 nights.

This amounts to a combined saving of more than $1 million in accommodation charges for families who otherwise would have to stay in a hotel or motel.
