But gun fly-half Ethan Cusick produced enough of his own, scoring a hat-trick in his team's 29-21 bonus point win over the visitors.
Played in cold conditions at University Oval, CSU coach David Conyers acknowledged his team was riddled by mistakes but did give credit to Cusick, as well as debutant flanker Josh Scott.

"Ethan, whenever he runs the ball, he's pretty deceptive," Conyers said.
"Our number six Josh Scott, it was his first game of rugby at 28-years-old. It was an awesome performance from him. He took the ball up well.
"Having not played before, he wasn't too familiar, but he made his runs and made his tackles. It was fantastic for someone like him to come in and play like that."
There was plenty of action within the first 25 minutes of the game, with the students racing to a 22-7 lead.
A Mudgee try just two minutes out from half-time gave the visitors hope of a second-half fight back.
However, it never eventuated with both teams scoring a converted try each in the second half, with Mudgee only pulling back the deficit to eight points after an intercept try from Kapeen Luke with under 10 minutes to play.

Conyers said there's plenty to work on, especially the 20 minutes before and after half-time.
"That middle 40-minute period, we just lost our way," he admitted.
"We've really got to find a solution to that. Once we put the phases together and put an attack together, we can score three tries in six minutes. But we've just got to get that middle part of the game fixed up.
"We need a bit more consistency, but uni holidays, unavailability, it's been a really disrupted week for us but it's good to see the bench come through and get a really good performance in the second half."
CSU's eight-point wins solidifies its second-place position on the ladder, with a 13-point buffer over the third-placed Wombats.
With Parkes win over Dubbo Rhinos on Saturday, the Boars remain undefeated this season, having won all eight of its game.
CSU is next in action on Saturday, when it travels away to place bottom place Narromine Gorillas, the team it defeated to win the 2019 grand final.
- CSU 29 (Ethan Cusick 3, Carlos Ahsee, Harry Magriplis tries; Ethan Cusick 2 conversions) defeated MUDGEE WOMABTS 21 (Kapeen Luke, Brian O'Reilly, Brett Swords tries; Brian O'Reilly 3 conversions)
