What started as a coping mechanism when Ms Holmes was experiencing emotional and physical difficulties is now a successful business, Imperfectly Perfect Sugar Cookies.
"I had a spinal cord injury in 2016 and wasn't sure what I was going to do with myself after that ... I really needed to find something to keep my sanity, more than anything, and I threw the idea out there and it kind of went from a hobby to a business," Ms Holmes said.
IN OTHER BUSINESS NEWS AROUND BATHURST:
She has been nominated in the specialist baker category for the Party Stylist of the Year Awards; and AusMumpreneur for food, beverage and customer service and disabled business excellence.
"The main one I'm really proud to be a part of this year is the disabled business excellence because if there's one thing I can get out of my business, it's being able to show people that if you have a disability, things aren't out of reach and that you can have success in ways that you probably wouldn't think that you could," Ms Holmes said.
"Success for me is being able to reach people and if I can make one person think that they can go out and do it or make one employer realise people with a disability actually are quite valuable in the business community, then that for me means so much more."
Ms Holmes has recently acquired a new working space, a shipping container which she has named "Brenda", that she has filled with bright colours, a mixture of lolly jars and everything she needs to make her cookies.
Wanting to create a fun and happy place to which she can retreat, Ms Holmes can now separate work from home.
"Brenda the shipping container is named after my grandmother because it's actually my grandmother's recipe that I use ... we used to spend a lot of time in the kitchen baking together," she said.
Ms Holmes said accepting the nominations is her way of thanking the loyal customers who nominated her and have supported her business over the past few years.
She said she is grateful for the relationships she has created through her business.
