It was in 2009 when enjoying his best ever season in the Super2 Series that Denyer won a sprint race at Townsville driving for Dick Johnson Racing.

It helped him to fourth overall in the championship.

For Anderson the mission at Townsville will be a little different as he forms part of a combined Super2-Super3 grid.

He has not had the chance to race since February's season-opener at Bathurst given COVID-19 has forced the cancellation of other planned rounds since then.

But Townsville has been given the green light and the Super2-Super3 Series will be part of the support card for the Supercars round to be staged there.

Anderson currently leads the Super3 Series after Jon McCorkindale, who had sat on top of the points table following Bathurst, stepped up to Super2.

The Ford Falcon FG driver, who placed sixth in the 2018 series when he last competed, currently holds a three-point buffer over Brendan Strong.

The Townsville round will feature a pair of 250 kilometre races - one Saturday, the other on Sunday - with practice to commence at 10am Friday.

No active Super2 or Super3 drivers have won a race in Townsville, which didn't host the development series in the 2020 COVID-19 affected season.
