New plant boxes that have been or are in the process of being installed around the Bathurst CBD are not expected to take away car parks from motorists says council.

Bathurst Regional Council is in the process of installing more then 20 plant boxes across the CBD, with 19 already in their set location, while another six are yet to come.
Bathurst mayor Ian North said the plant boxes were installed to help create more shade across town and to reduce urban heat.

"The idea was generated from the masterplan to have more trees and shade to improve the amenity in the CBD and to help reduce the urban heat," he said.
"19 are in location with another six to come. No car spaces have or will be lost."
Mr North explained that council receiving funding from the NSW Government to help with the installation of the plant boxes.
"Council received a grant of $767,884 under the NSW Government's Streets as Shared Spaces program," he explained said.
"The NSW Government program is aimed at delivering temporary improvements to improve public spaces within the CBD."
The Streets as Shared Spaces program program was launched back in May last year, to help enable improvements across NSW during COVID-19 and into the future.
The Bathurst CBD plant box project is one of 52 projects across the state that has received funding from the NSW Government's Streets as Shared Spaces program.
