BATHURST High has dominated the Minister's Awards for Education, with two teachers and one student announced as recipients of the prestigious award.
Ken Barwick, principal of Bathurst High said he was ecstatic with the result, saying it was the biggest number of Minister's Awards presented to one NSW school in 2021.
Two teachers, Matthew Baillie and Veronica Manock both received Minister's Awards for Excellence in Teaching while student Zoe Peters received a Minister's Award for Excellence in Student Achievement.
Another student, Sophie Thomas, received a Minister's Commendation.
"We have been very fortunate this year, Bathurst High campus received the most number of awards presented to any school in NSW," Mr Barwick said.
Mr Barwick said Matthew Baillie got his Minister's Award for his exceptional teaching and outstanding long term results at HSC level as well as high level involvement in extracurricular sport and school activities.
He said Veronica Manock, who has also just been appointed head teacher for creative and performing arts at the school, received her award on the back of her outstanding HSC results.
"Seventy percent of students in her class receive a Band Five or Band Six every year at HSC level, which is just incredible," he said.
School captain Zoe Peters received an Excellence in Student Achievement in the awards.
"Zoe is basically a force to be reckoned with," Mr Barwick said.
"She represents at every level in leadership, she is an incredibly articulate, intelligent young lady who clearly can see how she can make a difference."
He said she then works with other leaders to enact that change.
"It was her community work and leadership that was recognised," he said.
Mr Barwick also congratulated Sophie Thomas on her Minister's Commendation.
"She too is an incredible young lady on the school's leadership team, and very effective in terms of input for other kids and the care of others to get the best result for Bathurst High students," Mr Barwick said.
