The exuberance was definitely noticeable among Kelso High Campus' graduating Year 12 class on Friday, as they donned wacky costumes and took part in a series of activities as part of a week-long victory lap to bookend 13 years of schooling.
Kelso High Year 12 student Elly Rudd said there were plenty of mixed emotions among the cohort as they celebrated their last day, with the Higher School Certificate [HSC], to commence on November 9, their final hurdle to leap over.
"It's been a really crazy year that seems to have gone on forever," Elly said.
"To reach the end is both relieving and sad, but we're all really happy to have been able to emerge from lockdown and celebrate the end together as a year group."
Fellow student Brody Cooper said the lockdown certainly provided its fair share of challenges from a motivational perspective.
"It certainly was a trying year, but I'm glad we all got through it," Brody said.
"I'm pretty keen to get stuck into a TAFE course next year and hopefully land a full-time job."
Aiden Clancey said there was a complete outpouring of relief among the cohort throughout the week after having to navigate two COVID-wrought years of senior study.
"Considering we've had it harder than any other Year 12 cohort, the fact we've made it to the end are are still able to sit the HSC is something we should all be grateful for," Aiden said.
Year 12 advisor Lauren Dean said the resilience and commitment shown by the students has helped them weather a difficult storm in their senior years.
"They've copped the brunt of the pandemic, having to go through two lockdowns during their senior schooling," Ms Dean said.
"They have shown exemplary resilience, and it's nice to see they were able to have their celebration week to cap off their time at school; they really deserved it."
