BATHURST police are warning local business owners and customers to be on the lookout for counterfeit notes following a number of recent reports.

Fast food outlets have been urged to take extra care with scammers targeting businesses with rapid high turnover of cash.
A spokesperson for Chifley Police District said a number of counterfeit notes had been found in circulation in Bathurst and Lithgow over the past week.

"Business owners are asked to educate team members on how to check for a counterfeit notes," the spokesperson said.
"The Reserve Bank of Australia (https://banknotes.rba.gov.au/counterfeit-detection) have detection guides online, that are handy to keep alongside cash registers for reference.
"If your business suspects a note is counterfeit, kindly decline service and ask for another method of payment. Take notes of the person you spoke with, such as descriptions, the conversation you had and any vehicle they maybe driving.
"Alternatively, if a suspect note is already in your possession, handle it as little as possible and store it into an envelope. Call local police immediately."
