At about 5.20pm on Tuesday, officers from Bathurst Highway Patrol stopped a white Toyota Hilux on Kendall Street for the purposes of a breath test.
The 24-year-old Bathurst man driving the vehicle was breath tested and returned a negative result, however an inspection of the vehicle identified that it was not in a roadworthy condition.
Police identified the following issues:
- Major impact damage to the front and the inner fender well had detached from the chassis due to rust/impact.
- Radiator support panel significantly rusted
- Body lift fitted - not certified
- Front driveshaft detached from diff and resting on the exhaust
Police issued the man a major grounded defect and red label, with the vehicle not permitted to be driven from the scene.
The driver was issued with a number of penalty notices for vehicle compliance offences.
The incident comes as police reach the halfway point of a statewide operation focused on safe driving behaviour over the Christmas and new year period.
In Bathurst, the majority of motorists have been well behaved, but there have been a couple of incidents of concern.
Two motorists lost their licences for six months after being caught exceeding the speed limit by more than 45km/h on Mount Panorama.
The major policing operation will conclude at 11.59pm on Monday, January 3, with double demerits applicable during that time.
Police will continue to be out in force to ensure people are following the road rules and make it to their destinations safely.
