Weatherzone meteorologist Joel Pippard says a deep trough over central NSW tracking eastward is going to bring the unsettled conditions.
He said thunderstorms are likely for Bathurst on Friday afternoon and there is a good chance they will be severe, bringing heavy rainfall, damaging winds and hail.

"Some models are picking up pretty decent totals [for Bathurst for Friday]," he said. "Quite a few models are showing 15 to 30 millimetres, but it will be variable."
Isolated showers and storms are possible on Saturday morning, he said, before the storm activity gets more serious from the late morning.
Large hail will be a possibility, he said, as well as damaging winds.
He said there will be a bit of instability on Sunday, but storms are not as likely as on Saturday.
The Bureau of Meteorology issued an initial flood watch on Thursday afternoon for a number of catchments in NSW, including for the Belubula River, which runs through Blayney, Carcoar and Canowindra.
The bureau says catchments are "average to wet" following rainfall in recent weeks.
