Making the jump up after a pair of President's Cup outings, Phillips, 15, finished with figures of 5-15 to wipe out the St Pat's Old Boys Blue middle and lower order and give his side a 44 run victory at George Park 1.
Phillips was the sixth and last Colts bowler to be brought into the attack as Colts tried to defend a total of 142, and his impact was immediate.
He claimed five of the last six wickets to take Pat's from 4-67 to all out for 98.
Phillips, who is plying his trade for Colts while his school cricket in Sydney is on holiday break, said the haul on Saturday was a welcome surprise.
"It was very unexpected. I was quite nervous, to be honest, but Brad [Molenkamp, captain] came up to be and said 'Top of off, on the stumps and they can't hit anything off you' and I just tried to do that," he said.
"I just wanted to try and hit the right areas and they were going for a slog so it paid off. The pitch did start to do a bit too but we pressured them a lot economically. It was just about putting it on the stumps and hoping for them to make a mistake."
Phillips had played well for his two President's Cup scores of 41 and 27 this season.
It's the bat where Phillips has been putting most of his focus into, which is what made Saturday's outcome a welcome surprise.
"I'm just trying to get myself a bit of extra time with the bat and get some practice in where I can," Phillips said.
"I'd like to think of myself as a batting all-rounder. It was a couple of nights ago when I was saying to dad whether I should give up the bowling, since I've been batting alright this year.
"My dad just said 'Well, we'll just see how you go'."
Phillips is just the third player this BDCA second grade season to achieve a five wicket haul.
The other two players ahead of him in the best figures battle, Centennials Bulls' Sikhander Khan (7-60) and Bathurst City's Dene Rice (6-47), each achieved their efforts during the last round before Christmas.
