Young people are becoming increasingly involved in the annual sale which has grown to become one of the biggest of its kind in the area.
Arts council president Wendy-Lou Tisdell said Bathurst RSL had hosted the sale for a number of years and proved to be a popular venue.
“It is just an excellent venue. Our sales have gone up, I’d say tenfold, since we started going there,” she said.
For this year’s competition, hundreds of pieces have been submitted for judging across the wide variety of categories.
The arts council has always tried to appeal to different artists by accepting a range of mediums into its competitions, including paintings, sculptures and ceramics.
They have received quite a few entries from junior artists, many of them creating sculptures.
Ms Tisdell said that the amount of sculptures produced by the juniors has warranted creating a new, separate category for junior sculptures, which will be judged independently of adult-made sculptures.
“When you see that happening you know that there are some kids that don’t have their heads buried in technology,” she joked.
The competition and sale will officially open on Friday at 7.30pm, but works can be viewed between 6pm and 9pm.
The exhibition is also open on Saturday and Sunday.
This year the guest artist will be Tanya Loviz, who has a gallery at Warrimoo.
“She has got some beautiful stuff and she will be giving away bookmarks to anyone who comes through the door,” Ms Tisdell said.
