According to Weatherzone, there was 43.4 millimetres of rain in the 24 hours to 9am on Tuesday out at Bathurst Airport.

While it's a 24-hour figure, the rain was concentrated between about 7.30pm Monday and 4am Tuesday.

The massive downpour has put Bathurst very close to the long-term average rainfall figure for February, which is 57.8mm.

For the month so far, there has been 53.2mm recorded, with the additional 9.8mm recorded on February 1.

It comes after Bathurst fell well short in January.

The long-term average for January is 68.3mm, but last month the region only saw 36.2mm.

That was despite there being more rainy days, nine, compared to the average of 7.5 days.

The wettest day was January 5, when there was 15.4mm to 9am.

The downpour this week also saw Bathurst surpass the amount of rain received in the same period in 2020.

Weatherzone reports 58.6mm was recorded to February 2 in 2020. There were 11 rain days in that period in both 2020 and 2021.

Weatherzone's forecast for the rest of the week indicates that Bathurst will be adding to its rainfall total.

There is a 40 per cent chance of rain on Thursday, which could see between one and 5mm fall.

Friday is the best chance for rain, at 80 per cent, and between five and 10mm could fall.

There is also a 60 per cent chance of rain on Saturday, which again could bring as much as 10mm.

While the downpour this week has certainly helped the rainfall figures for the month and year grow, there needs to be a lot more rain for Bathurst to break records.

The wettest February on record in Bathurst was in 1971, where the official figure was 235.5mm.

To break the wettest 24-hour record for February, Bathurst would need to record more than 101.1mm in 24 hours, as it did in 1950.
