Back from a four month spell, Tags ($4.80, Nick Heywood) soared home from towards the tail of the field to run down the short priced favourite Smuggler's Bay ($1.50, Kayla Nisbet) in the JB Civil Concreting Country Class 2 Plate (1,100 metres).
Prior to Tuesday's meeting Williams feared Tags may have ended up racing for second behind Smuggler's Bay, who had gone two from two to start his career, but her Sidestep gelding was ridden to perfection by Heywood.
He didn't get away to the strongest of starts but poked his way through the middle of the track to settle in fifth.
Out in front it was long shot Rewarded Princess who led the way, with Smuggler's Bay looming up on the outside during the turn for home.
Renzulli applied some pressure on the favourite's outside and Heywood was quick to latch onto its back.
Smuggler's Bay shot to the front with 400m to go and Rewarded Princess and Renzulli quickly lost pace with the well-backed runner.
Tags was the only runner moving faster than Smuggler's Bay down the stretch but he was left with several lengths to make up.
Just as he had done in his latest victory at Dubbo back in February, Tags found another gear over the final 200m to run down his rivals and keep the wins coming.
"He's a big strong horse and he's going a bit better this prep but we thought the other one would get the march on him. He's a speedy horse, that odds-on favourite," Williams said.
"When I saw the other one up next to it I thought 'Oh, this might be good for us because it could help him coming from behind'.
"It was a great ride from Nick. He was slow away and missed the jump but he didn't panic. He just got him on the bridle and kept him balanced."
It was almost a race-to-race double for Williams after Art Angel ($17, Nick Heywood) was pipped by Cellbridge ($2.25 favourite, Heavelon Van Der Hoven) in a photo finish to decide the Bathurst Glass & Windows F&M Maiden Handicap (1,200m).
