After a December in which the city has cracked 30 degrees only three times, and three days didn't even get to 20 degrees, Bathurst is forecast to have a sustained burst of heat.
Starting Friday, according to the Bureau of Meteorology, the city will have temperatures just below or just above 30 degrees for at least five days in a row.
And, in a change from the pattern so far this summer, it's set to be a dry run as well.
It will be a complete contrast to 12 months ago, when Bathurst started January 2021 with temperatures of 18.2 degrees, 22.8, 27.1 and 24.4 and didn't get over 30 degrees until the 12th day of the month.
In the end, Bathurst went on to exceed 30 degrees 10 times that month, including a hottest day of 35 degrees.
Among the major cities of the region, Orange is set to hit a top of 30 degrees during this coming burst of heat, Mudgee will hit 33 and Dubbo will reach a top of 35.
